PHILIPS BiPAP/CPAP RECALL LAWSUITS Lung and Cancer Injuries

Philips BiPap and CPAP lawsuits claim that an undisclosed product defect in the machines can cause injuries and cancer.

The Philips Recall

Philips announced a voluntary recall of numerous Philips Bi-Level Positive Airway Pressure (Bi-PAP), Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP), and mechanical ventilator devices in June, 2021. The recall is related to various health risks caused by sound-dampening polyester-based polyurethane (PE-PUR) used in the device.

Philips’ internal testing revealed that its PE-PUR foam can degrade into particulate matter, which can then be inhaled by the user. Philips’ User Manual for its first generation DreamStation products, which are most of the devices being recalled, does not warn of these health and safety risks.

Possible Injuries and Illnesses

Philips itself has reported numerous potential health risks caused by foam degradation in its recalled Bi-PAP and CPAP machines.

Cancer
Toxic effects to organs, including kidneys and liver
Respiratory issues such as asthma
Irritation in the eyes, nose, or respiratory system
Headache
Dizziness
Nausea/vomiting

Philips also reported numerous potential health and safety issues from off-gassing, or the release of harmful chemicals in a vapor or gas form.
